TIMELINE

A History of Success

1998

New Board, New Name

'School Board 50-08' formed a committee to name the new board. They chose ‘Lester B. Pearson,’ recognizing Canada's Nobel Peace Prize-winning fourteenth Prime Minister. 

1998

An International Beginning

Three International Baccalaureate World Schools, all high schools, become part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board: Lakeside Academy (IB since 1994), Pierrefonds Community High School (then called Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School, IB since 1996), and St. Thomas High School
(IB since 1996).

2000

Head Office Grand Opening

In October of 2000, the expansion and renovation of a former elementary school were completed, and the various departments of the LBPSB were housed in the same location for the first time.

2000

Westwood Jr. Opens

Construction was completed on the new building in St. Lazare that would come to be named Westwood High School, Junior Campus.

2001

Welcome to PETES

Construction is completed on Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The school opens its doors to welcome students from the local community.

2002-2003

Pearson Adult and Career Centre

During the 2002-2003 school year, the former Riverside Park Technology Centre became the Pearson Adult and Career Centre. Since then, the institution has helped many thousands find a fulfilling path.

2003

And now, Margaret Manson

A beautiful new school, Margaret Manson Elementary, welcomes students in Kirkland.

2004-2005

Elementary IB

Children's World Academy in LaSalle becomes the first elementary school in the LBPSB to receive International Baccalaureate World School accreditation.

2006

LCCHS IB World School

LaSalle Community Comprehensive High School becomes an International Baccalaureate World School.

2006

Forest Hill Sr. forever!

Students arrive at the St. Lazare campus of Forest Hill Sr. Elementary for the first time, shortly after its construction was completed.

2006-2007

Electrotechnology

A new Vocational centre, the Pearson Electrotechnology Centre, opens its doors and begins training a new generation of tradespeople to work with electricity and telephony.

2007-2008

International Language

A new beginning: the International Language Centre begins operating, and welcomes the world to Montreal’s West Island.

2011

Beautiful Birchwood

Another school in St. Lazare, Birchwood Elementary, was completed and began serving the community. Birchwood remains the most recent school in the LBPSB network.

2012-2013

John Killingbeck Pavilion

The International Language Centre becomes the John Killingbeck Pavilion of board’s International Programs. Specialized vocational classrooms with state-of-the-art equipment are constructed on-site.

2013-2014

More Elementary IB!

Clearpoint Elementary in Pointe-Claire receives International Baccalaureate World School accreditation.

2016-2017

Verdun’s Adult and Vocational Education

The LBPSB opens the Verdun Adult and Career Centre, making first class continuing education opportunities available to learners in the board’s eastern-most region.

2018-2019

More K4!

The Lester B. Pearson School Board, having made pre-kindergarten available in eligible neighbourhoods for many years, begins opening more K4 classrooms with new funding from the Government of Quebec.

The Lester B. Pearson School Board proudly celebrates 25 years of excellence in education with a tree planting ceremony at Head Office.
